In 1999, my research started into the incredible world of high altitude Himalayan plants. In 2008, the Dunagiri Foundation for Himalayan Herbal Research and Yogic Studies was established in India as a charitable Trust. Our goal was to create cultivation projects in high altitude village regions for rare and endangered plant species to combat the illegal wild harvesting that had devastated the region.
This project grew until it was disrupted in 2020, however our colleagues are still rigorously continuing the mission to this day. Our roles included research and education, hands on training, creating nurseries and post harvest protocols, as well as establishing international markets to ensure our farmers were paid fairly. This work was extremely challenging, yet rewarding, and I’m happy to say that it makes what we want to do in Costa Rica look easy!
